The Intra-Governmental group on Geographic Information (IGGI) established in 1993, is a cross-departmental group working with partners in the geographic information (GI) industry to co-ordinate and promote the effective use of geographic information (GI) in central government.

IGGI members work together, share knowledge and act as a focal point for the central government GI community within their respective organisations. There are now several hundred GI professionals, working in over 300 hundred central government organisations, who are members of IGGI

Anyone working in central government can join IGGI at no cost. We welcome your involvement, whether you want to:

  • understand what GI could do for you;
  • develop your knowledge further;
  • join the PGA; or
  • share your expertise and success.

Information on the types and role of members as well as how the community works is available here.

Sign up to IGGI today to get a voice in the GI community and to receive the following benefits:

  • membership of the IGGI networked community through the MyIGGI pages;

IGGI originally established the Pan-Government Agreement (PGA) a cross governmental purchasing agreement in 2003 to encourage central government's use of GI in policy, decision making and delivering information services for citizens.

Since then there has been a significant increase in the number of users of geographic information in central government. The PGA now has over 100 member organisations and offers a portfolio of core GI data from three suppliers and has proved to be a catalyst for GI growth within government as a cost effective way to access GI data.

The key aims of the PGA are to:

  1. meet government's requirements for core geographic information;
  2. facilitate data sharing, both within the PGA community and with others, in order to effectively carry out government business; and
  3. deliver value for money.

If you are interested in realising the benefits of PGA in your workplace, and your organisation is not a member, find out if you are eligible to join.
